Every year, thousands of graduating East Texas students dream about what comes next. For some, that dream is earning a college degree. For others, it’s pursuing technical training, certification programs, or specialized careers that will allow them to support their families and strengthen their communities.
For many of these students, a scholarship can make the difference between a dream deferred and a dream realized.
At East Texas Communities Foundation, we have the privilege of witnessing the impact of scholarship funds every year. During the 2026-27 academic year alone, ETCF awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships to students across East Texas. Behind every scholarship is a donor, family, business, or organization that chose to invest in the future of others.
The reasons people create scholarship funds are as unique as the students they support.
Some donors establish scholarships to encourage careers that are important to them—fields such as healthcare, education, ministry, agriculture, geology, or the skilled trades. Others want to invest in students from their hometown or a community that helped shape their lives. Many create scholarships to honor a beloved teacher, mentor, parent, spouse, or friend. Others establish memorial scholarships to celebrate the life of someone gone too soon.
While every scholarship has its own story, they all share a common purpose: creating opportunity.
